The Branding Love Potion Kit
How to create a brand you (and your customers) will fall in love with
Hi, remember me? The girl who kind-sorta-possibly inspired you to break up with your brand? *Hides behind her bowl of popcorn*
Wait – before you tip the popcorn out and bonk my head with the bowl, I want you to know that I’ve come up with a fun way to take you from brand break-up to beautifully branded babe. Interested?
What if you could create a brand that resonated so deeply with your dream customers that they thought it was made for them?
And what if … That very same brand made you feel all sorts of fluttery, happy, loved-up things?
“Well, duh Em, I’d hop on that inflatable unicorn faster than you could say ‘pool party at my place!’”
… Is what you’re probably thinking, right?
Because who DOESN’T want a brand that they and their dream customers love!?
And the secret to getting it? Well, I’ve kind of already told you …
You have to make it just for them.
The most powerful brands are the ones created with their dream customers in mind.
But how? How does one build a brand for their dream customers?
Or, at least it will be … with my branding love potion kit.
The Branding Love Potion Kit
Warning: Completion of this kit may induce feelings of lovesickness in you and your target market.
The good news? If you’re here – you probably have this one in the bag! High-five, boss babe.
A clear idea of the customers you want to attract.
This is your target market, aka your dream customers. You’ll need to know their basic demographics (age, gender, location) as well as some more detailed info like their values, goals, challenges, needs and desires.
An almost psychic-level of intelligence on what those customers love.
Don’t know what your customers love? Imagine you’re cramming for a test and they are the answer. Head on over to Instagram and indulge in some loving stalking of your target market to suss out what lights them up. Pay attention to who they follow, what they post and the colours they’re drawn to.
A captivating brand personality.
This is how your business looks, feels and interacts with the world. For example, my brand personality is soft, gentle, bubbly and laid-back. All of these elements everything from how I write through to what colours I use in brand.
Step one: Create a mood board for your target market.
Hop onto Pinterest (or get crafty old-school style with some magazines, paper and glue) and, based on your psychic-level intel, imagine that you are your target market. Now go nuts and pin/paste images that resonate and click with them/you.
Step two: Create a mood board for you.
Now it’s your turn! Do the same thing, but as you this time. Think about words/images you love and pin/paste them to your mood board.
Step three: Blend the two.
Try to find common elements between the two boards and aim to create a new mood board that reflects and represents both you and your target market.
Step four: Pour your potion!
Finally, hand the raw ingredients over to your brand guru for them transform into a beautiful brand your dream customers can’t wait to enjoy!
